Your tour manager meets you at the cruise exit door in Aqaba Port, and you'll travel by private air-conditioned vehicle for around 90 minutes north to Petra.
Founded around the 6th century BC by the Nabataean Arabs, Petra is a city cut directly into rose-red sandstone cliffs. From the visitor centre it's a 700-metre walk to the entrance of the Siq — a 1,200-metre gorge with walls rising more than 80 metres overhead, their colours shifting as the light moves. Your local guide walks it with you to the moment it opens onto the Treasury.
After your time at Petra, you'll return through the Siq and stop for lunch at a local restaurant.
From there it's a 90-minute drive to Wadi Rum, the protected desert Lawrence of Arabia called "vast, echoing and god-like." A 4x4 jeep tour of around ninety minutes takes you through canyons, across coloured sand dunes and out to rock inscriptions carved thousands of years ago.
Afterwards you'll be driven back to your ship in Aqaba Port.
Because this is a private Petra and Wadi Rum tour, the pace is yours rather than a group's.
