You'll be met at the cruise exit door in Aqaba Port and driven by private air-conditioned vehicle for around 90 minutes north to Petra, one of the New Seven Wonders of the World.
Founded by the Nabataean Arabs around the 6th century BC, Petra is a city carved straight into rose-red cliffs by a people who grew rich on the incense trade. From the visitor centre it's a 700-metre walk to the entrance of the Siq, a 1,200-metre gorge with walls rising more than 80 metres, their colours shifting as the light moves across the sandstone.
Your local guide walks the Siq with you to the moment it opens onto the Treasury — and there's no photograph that quite prepares you for it.
After your time in Petra, you'll stop for lunch at a local restaurant before the drive back to your ship.
This Petra tour from Aqaba is a straightforward way to see the site on a single port day, with your own vehicle and driver throughout.
